This year the Solace Tree will be coming to Mendive Middle School to run a support group for students. The purpose of the Good Grief program is to help meet the needs of students who are grieving the loss of a loved one, (does not have to be recent) parent incarceration, divorce, abuse, and other losses in their life. Grief support can help children and teens understand the feelings and changes brought about by a loss. Studies suggest that extra support following a loss can often help students function better at home and at school. In addition, a grief group provides a special time and place for healing and a chance to meet others that are living with a loss. The sessions will be educational, fun and appropriate for your child’s age and social emotional concerns.
The group will meet approximately two times per month for 30 minutes each session during your child’s school day. The first group will begin during his or her ENR class on Friday, March 3rd. A trained grief facilitator from the Solace Tree will lead the sessions, alongside one of our school counselors: Mrs. Harrell, Mrs. Jempsa, Mr. Elsmore. All students attending will be expected to keep up with their school work. To learn more about the Good Grief program please go to the following website: www.solacetree.org.
